Rebecca Willson, CPT
(Certified Professional Trainer)
Rebecca Willson began working with dogs growing up on the farmlands of New Hampshire. From puppies to rescue pups, she was always in the throws of exercising, feeding and caring for them all. Animals were always a lifelong passion. Who knew it would also be her lifelong profession?
After four years at Northeastern University as a scholar-athlete, Rebecca started her professional life in marketing and graphic design. After quite a bit of soul searching, she came to the conclusion that she just needed to do what really makes her happy. Regardless of how many other things she tried, she always came back to dogs.
“I love them. I love their ears, and the way you can see how they actually hear what you are saying, even if they choose to ignore it. I love the way their feet smell like Fritos. I love that every one is just so incredibly different, yet all have the same unconditional love for their owners. I love being greeted by them when I come into their homes to walk them- and how they know that they are going to go out and have a great time. So yes, this is my calling…what I should be doing every day. And nothing has made me happier.”
Six years ago, this enthusiasm and sixth sense for dog care was and continues to be the foundation for building the Urban Hound of today. Under Rebecca’s leadership, the brand remains what it has always been – an unparalleled love for your dog combined with a premier collection of services to care for them. Excellence and love propel the Urban Hound. Whether it is a walk, a fieldtrip, an overnight stay or a day playing in our indoor park, Rebecca has thought about the best way to care for any dog.
Thus, after founding the Urban Hound and years of success, she realized that quality of her care protocols could be further advanced with a formal training background to help herself and her staff understand the psychology of the dogs they are walking every day. She understood how this was a great way to align how dogs relate to one another, their walker and their owners. In addition driven by the desire to develop an Urban Hound methodology – a specialized way how her staff walks, cares for and interacts with the dogs – she decided to expand her knowledge of canine behavior.
In October 2009, Rebecca graduated from the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers (www.nk9.com) in Columbus, Ohio where she studied advanced obedience, agility, and general dog psychology and obtained her qualification as a Certified Professional Trainer. Rebecca and the Urban Hound now offer a full range of training packages and puppy programs.
